Ben Weide Berlin
Ben Weide is a designer and at the same time gave his name to the Berlin fashion label, which has been combining high-quality design with sustainable production since 2013. What that means? Very easily. The production runs locally at high fashion level. All collection parts are designed in Berlin. The fabrics and all ingredients used in a jacket come from local factories and manufacturers. For example, the zippers come from Saxony-Anhalt and the buttons from Baden-Württemberg.
"My vision was a clothing line that combines my passion for outstanding fabrics with the most regional possible production and uncomplicated, contemporary comfort as well as practical sustainability," says designer Ben Weide. The label is known for well thought-out Outdoor2Business wear - the pieces are just as good to wear on the bike as they are later at a meeting. All this with fabrics that you want to “snuggle up” in.
Besides design, his passion is travelling.
The designer has traveled countries and cities, from the colorful markets of Saudi Arabia to the urban architecture of New York and the cultural sights of Europe. Wherever he is, he picks up colors and patterns and writes down his impressions. Whether by the sea or in the country: there are new color nuances to be discovered everywhere.
The light and the different structures give his creativity new input for the design of the fabrics for his collection. The journeys serve to find new color ideas. From Iceland to Africa and from India to America give the traveler Ben Weide inspiration when finding the color scheme.
Back in the studio, the designer experiments with colors and materials together with the cloth maker and keeps creating new pieces for the collection.
And so every journey becomes a story for color ideas its fashion. Now also very strong in the current collection 2023/24.
"I love it when incomparable pieces are made from great fabrics, for example for my exclusive limited editions," says Ben Weide. With this "limited edition", customers receive jacket series that are often limited to just 20 or 30 pieces. With this exclusivity and with the wool qualities such as cashmere, vicuna or merino, the label appeals to a very special group of buyers. The valuable, sustainable garments of the "Limited Edition" are only sold via manufactory markets, design fairs or premium bike fairs.
And if sustainability is also processed through machine-washable jackets and linings, half of which are made from renewable resources and half from recycled PET bottles, and GOTS-certified fabrics, then the label is far from greenwashing.
The concept is a hit: the label won the German Design Award “Winner” back in 2015 and presented itself at the EXPO Milan, the DMY International Design Festival and at the Berlin Fashion Week. In February 2016 and 2019 it was awarded the "Green Product Award Selection".
With its current 2023/24 collection, the label once again proves how sophisticated functionality, high-quality materials and timeless design can harmonize perfectly with each other.
